Abstract

The purpose of this manuscript, is to make some reflections on the appropriateness of maintaining the federal system and local elections in Mexico, in the face of the imminent risk of the disappearance of local systems to give way to a national electoral system, with the consequent transgression federalism and the electoral democracy in Mexico.

For the development of the theme in question, making use of the dogmatic and legalistic legal methods, and with support in the documentary technique, first develops a theoretical section on federalism and the electoral federalism in Mexico. Then, it addresses how has evolved the Mexican electoral system until you get to the last electoral reform of 2014. This is followed by analyzes the proposal for reform of the electoral system presented by the Deputy Sergio Gutierrez Moon, on behalf of the parliamentary group of the party of MORENA, where proposes the disappearance of Local Public Bodies (OPLES), giving way to a national electoral system. Finally, the study concludes with reflection on the unfeasibility of the proposal, as well as to the suitability of maintain operation of federal and local systems of elections in Mexico.
