Abstract

This work highlights the increase in political violence during the 2020-2021 electoral process and its impact on the precariousness of democracy. State indifference to the crimes of which aspirants and candidates have been victims, as well as the impunity of the perpetrators, show the incapacity of state instances to guarantee the rule of law, political competition and participation. The article also shows the limitation of having a definition of political violence restricted to acts or omissions against women based on gender.
